ESX safety and standard control units

The ESX controller family from Sensor-Technik Wiedemann (STW) for safety and standard applications comprises the proven third as well as the innovative fourth generation.

With the upcoming fourth generation STW relies on a new processor platform, the Infineon Aurix, which is available in different variants. Therefore a new platform concept arises that will be seen not only in control units and I/O modules of the fourth generation, but also in intelligent sensors.

The ESX control units are available as standard versions or safety certified according to SIL2 / PLd. The versions for functional safety allow a separation of safety relevant and non-critical functions. The ESX versions that can be configured with extension boards (XM or XL) may use a safe extension board or any combination of standard extension boards for non-critical applications.

Both generations can be freely programmed either in the language “C” or “IEC61131” with CODESYS or logi.CAD3. In addition, MATLAB / Simulink is supported. The new toolset and framework openSYDE supports the R&D team in system design and developing, helps during debugging and tests right into the deployment phase and comes handy for parameterization and service.

For the fastest way to a safe, certified control unit, STW offers training. The lessons explain Functional Safety in detail and the requirements that arise from the standard IEC 61508 and the EN ISO 13849. Safety functions along with their characteristics as well as the demands towards standard-compliant development processes and a schedule to work through the list of requirements are introduced.
