Linking CAN busses over IP networks

The PCAN-Gateways allow the connection of CAN busses over IP networks. CAN frames are wrapped in TCP or UDP message packets and then forwarded via the IP network from one device to the other.

The configuration of the PCAN-Gateways is done via a comfortable web interface. Besides providing a variety of status information, the website can directly manage settings for the device itself, communication interfaces, and message routing.

Different PCAN-Gateway Hardware Types:

1. PCAN-Ethernet Gateway DR:

  • CAN to LAN gateway in DIN rail plastic casing
  • LAN connection via RJ-45 (10/100 Mbit/s)
  • CAN connection via screw-terminal strips (Phoenix)

2. PCAN-Ethernet Gateway FD DR:

  • CAN FD to LAN gateway in DIN rail plastic casing
  • LAN connection via RJ-45 (10/100/1000 Mbit/s)
  • CAN connection via screw-terminal strips (Phoenix)

3. PCAN-Wireless Gateway DR:

  • CAN to WLAN gateway in DIN rail plastic casing
  • WLAN via external 2.4 GHz dipole antenna (IEEE 802.11 b/g)
  • CAN connection via screw-terminal strips (Phoenix)

4. PCAN-Wireless Gateway:

  • CAN to WLAN gateway in plastic casing with flange
  • WLAN via Internal chip antenna (IEEE 802.11 b/g)
  • CAN connection via D-Sub or Tyco automotive connector

General Specifications (short version):

  • 2 High-speed CAN channels with bit rates up to 1 Mbit/s
  • Galvanic isolation of the CAN channels up to 500 V
  • Device configuration through a comfortable web interface
  • Linux operating system (version 2.6.31)
  • Extended operating temperature range from -40 to 85 °C
  • Voltage supply from 8 to 30 V

Virtual PCAN-Gateway Software

Beside the hardware, a Windows software for direct access to PCAN-Gateways is also available. The Virtual PCAN-Gateway software package provides access for Windows computers to devices of the PCAN-Gateway product line over IP-based networks. Various LAN and WLAN network adapters can be used.
